Malta’s National Statistics Office published its second 2025 general-government balance and debt notification under the Maastricht Treaty on 21 October. The deficit was €505.7 million, or 2.1% of GDP; Maastricht debt at year-end was €11,410.1 million, or 46.3% of GDP. Debt increased by €789 million from the end of 2024.

The office reported a 2024 deficit of €814.9 million (3.5% of GDP) and debt of €10,621.1 million (46.0%). The 2025 figures were updated from the March notification after audited statements from local councils and extra-budgetary units became available; debt was revised down by €13 million. The EDP measure uses ESA accrual accounting and general-government coverage, so it differs from the cash Consolidated Fund balance.
