Euro area government deficit stands at 3.1% of GDP

The seasonally adjusted EU ratio was also 3.1%.

The seasonally and calendar-adjusted general government deficit was 3.1% of GDP in both the euro area and EU in the first quarter of 2026, Eurostat said. Previous-quarter ratios were 3.2% and 3.4% respectively.

Euro area revenue was 47.1% of GDP and expenditure 50.2%. First-quarter results remain provisional; seasonally adjusted quarterly ratios are not final annual budget deficit figures.
