A multisectoral platform to coordinate nutrition interventions was established in Mali’s Sikasso region, according to an AMAP report published on 3 October. Regional officials, social-development services and UNICEF’s nutrition specialist discussed the scale of child malnutrition and the need to coordinate responses.

The report cited survey figures that 31% of children under five in the region were stunted, including 10% with severe stunting, while 16% were underweight. An official also said the prevalence of stunting had risen from 22.5% in 2023 to 34.1% in 2024, and acute malnutrition from 8.2% to 9.4% over the same period, including 1.1% severe acute malnutrition.

UNICEF’s regional nutrition specialist said the effort should help reduce acute malnutrition and sustain supplies of therapeutic foods and milk used to treat affected children. These figures are the values reported at the meeting; the article does not provide the underlying survey tables or sampling details.
