At its 30 September meeting, Mali’s Council of Ministers adopted draft texts establishing a School of Mines and Petroleum, according to the communiqué published by the Malian Press and Publicity Agency on 1 October. The school’s stated mission is initial and continuing training for mining and petroleum workers, in response to what the government described as a shortage of specialized training structures.

The cabinet also approved texts creating the Agency for Research and Development of Mineral Resources as a public scientific and technological institution. Its stated remit covers research, production, safeguarding, valorisation and dissemination of geological, mining, petroleum and gas knowledge. The release does not give a launch date, budget, staffing plan or student intake timetable.
