South Korea's consumer inflation rose to 2.9% in September

South Korea's consumer price index rose 2.9% year over year and 0.3% month over month in September. Fresh-food prices fell annually while core measures recorded annual increases of 2.7% to 2.8%.

The Ministry of Data and Statistics said the September 2026 consumer price index was 2.9% above a year earlier and 0.3% higher than in August. The index excluding food and energy rose 2.8% year over year, while the measure excluding agricultural products and petroleum rose 2.7%.

The living-cost index increased 2.5% annually. The fresh-food index rose 2.7% from August but was 3.3% lower than a year earlier; fresh-fruit prices fell 11.1% annually. These are monthly and annual comparisons for the national consumer price index.
