Italian retail sales rose 0.3% in August

Seasonally adjusted data published by Istat on 2 October show Italian retail sales value rose 0.3% and volume 0.1% in August from July. Year on year, value increased 0.5% while volume fell 1.0%.

In August, the seasonally adjusted retail sales index increased from July by 0.3% in value and 0.1% in volume. Across June to August, compared with the preceding three-month period, value declined 0.3% and volume declined 0.5%.

Compared with August 2025, sales value rose 0.5% while sales volume fell 1.0%. Online sales value increased 5.4% year on year; large-scale distribution grew 1.1%, while small-scale retail and non-store sales each declined 0.7%. Value and volume are different measures: growth in nominal sales value does not mean quantities sold also rose.

Hong Kong retail sales rose 5.6% in August

Hong Kong's retail sales value rose 5.6% year over year to HK$32.1 billion in August, according to a provisional estimate. Online sales increased 9.9% and accounted for 8.7% of the total.
