Brazil’s National Institute of Meteorology (INMET) said in an assessment published on 9 October that September 2026 brought low rainfall to the country’s centre-north and above-average rainfall to the centre-south. It noted records in parts of the South region, while some other areas had totals near climatological norms.

In the North region, monthly rainfall exceeded 100 millimetres in areas between Acre and southern Amazonas. INMET also reviewed areas that recorded above-average temperatures. The release summarizes observations for the past month; it is not a new forecast or proof that El Niño alone caused the conditions.
