A 18 October PIB backgrounder profiled coloured potato varieties developed by ICAR’s Central Potato Research Institute. It said the purple-fleshed Kufri Jamunia was officially released in 2024.
The source says the variety has higher ascorbic acid, anthocyanin and carotenoid levels than Kufri Manik and Kufri Neelkanth. It also reports yields of 32–35 tonnes per hectare under recommended practices and around 49 tonnes per hectare in 90-day station trials; these are institute-reported field results.
