Gandhigram opens campus buildings and launches three projects

India’s vice-president inaugurated two buildings at Gandhigram Rural Institute in Dindigul, Tamil Nadu, on 30 October, his office reported. The facilities were listed as the Examination and Seminar Halls and the Pushpkunj Heritage Building. The occasion combined golden-jubilee celebrations with the institute’s thirty-ninth convocation.

Foundation stones were also laid digitally for three projects: a 22 kV power house and control room, a School of Education academic building, and an academic complex with 30 classrooms. These projects are at a different stage from the facilities inaugurated during the visit.

The jubilee marks fifty years of the institute’s status as a deemed-to-be university, rather than a claim that all of its activities began fifty years ago. The release does not specify a total construction budget or completion dates for the three new projects. The ceremony therefore confirms their launch without establishing that the planned buildings are already available for use.
