France’s Grand Est region announced on 30 October that three variable-message signs, accompanied by traffic-monitoring cameras, would be installed on the RN4 and RN44 in November 2026. The initial investment is approximately €1.6 million, within a wider road-management modernisation programme.

The planned installations are at La Veuve on the RN44 on 4 November, with an estimated site cost of €450,000; Esternay on the RN4 on 5 November, at €440,000; and Mittelbronn on the RN4 on 20 November, at €710,000. These are scheduled deployments, not reports that the equipment is already operating.
The site budgets cover signs and gantries, cameras, fibre and electricity connections, and areas for safe maintenance access. The wider 2026–2029 programme is valued at €7.1 million and aims to equip 23 sites on the two roads. The region says the equipment will improve incident information and traffic supervision.
