L’Esprit Français compared French and German gas storage levels ahead of winter in an article published on 10 October. ENTSOG’s country table in its Winter Supply Outlook, published on 8 October, records storage filling at 84% in France and 58% in Germany on 1 October 2026. The EU average was 72% that day; ENTSOG put the EU level at 83% on 1 October 2025.
L’Esprit Français reported approximate figures of 85% for France and 59% for Germany, which do not match the exact percentages in ENTSOG’s table. The European Commission said the EU’s infrastructure flexibility can compensate for lower storage levels. ENTSOG’s outlook assesses infrastructure under different demand and supply conditions; it is not a forecast of actual supply, and storage percentages alone do not establish a shortage.
