France’s Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) described on October 9 a weak-lensing analysis that combines traditional cosmological statistics with artificial intelligence. Researchers at CEA-Irfu worked with teams at Imperial College and University College London.
The method was applied to shape measurements for about 100 million galaxies in the Dark Energy Survey’s third-year data. CEA says it produced the most precise constraints yet based solely on weak-lensing data for matter density and cosmic clustering, and that the results are consistent with Planck measurements. This is the institution’s account of the research findings.

CEA said the method was applied to shape measurements for about 100 million galaxies and that constraints on matter density and clustering were consistent with Planck.
Methodology
The institution reports findings based on third-year Dark Energy Survey measurements for about 100 million galaxies and consistency with Planck. The “most precise” characterization is the source institution’s assessment.
