FAO launched the Mapping of Irrigation Potential and Needs Initiative (IRMA) platform during the Rome Water Dialogue on October 13. The global platform maps existing irrigated and rainfed cropland and classifies agricultural areas by their biophysical suitability for irrigation.

IRMA brings data, indicators and analysis into one interface to support spatial comparison and prioritisation of irrigation investments. The global platform is open to all users; national versions are developed with country counterparts and tailored to local priorities and conditions.
