According to an FAO report dated 14 October, a climate-smart agriculture and agrobiodiversity project operating in Aswan, Beheira and Kafr El-Sheikh since 2023 involved 1,608 farmers through 62 Farmer Field Schools during winter 2025/26. Participants compared practices including irrigation, crop varieties, compost, mulching and pest management with conventional methods on their own fields.
FAO said participating farmers recorded an average crop-yield increase of 42.2% and an average reduction of 23.4% in irrigation water use compared with conventional practices. Results varied by crop and location; they describe the participating trial plots and are not a causal estimate for Egypt as a whole. The project is scheduled to continue through June 2027.
