EU member states appoint three judges to the Union’s courts

Government representatives reappointed Niels Fenger to the Court of Justice and appointed Andria Buhagiar and Ivan Stoynev to the General Court.

Government representatives of EU member states made three appointments within the Court of Justice of the European Union system on 30 September. Denmark’s Niels Fenger was reappointed to the Court of Justice; Malta’s Andria Buhagiar and Bulgaria’s Ivan Stoynev were appointed to the General Court for their first terms.

Fenger’s new term runs from 7 October 2027 to 6 October 2033; Buhagiar and Stoynev’s terms end on 31 August 2031. The Court of Justice appointment is part of a partial renewal ahead of the expiry of 14 judges’ and six advocates-general’s terms in 2027. The decisions take effect when published in the EU Official Journal.
