EU business registrations fall as bankruptcy declarations rise

Registrations fell 0.5% and bankruptcies rose 5.7% in the second quarter.

EU business registrations decreased 0.5% in the second quarter of 2026 compared with the previous quarter, Eurostat reported on 17 August. Bankruptcy declarations increased 5.7% over the same comparison.

Registrations fell 3.6% in industry but rose 8.8% in information and communication. The quarterly registration and bankruptcy series is different from enterprise births and deaths in annual business demography statistics.
