U.S.-based EnergyX announced on October 12 a binding, 10-year offtake agreement with Trafigura. The company says the trader will purchase a total of 100,000 metric tons of battery-grade products: lithium carbonate from its Black Giant project in Chile and lithium hydroxide from its Lonestar project in Texas.

EnergyX estimates the deal at more than $2 billion using a current market-price assumption of about $20,000 per metric ton; that estimate is not a guaranteed fixed payment. The company targets commercial-scale production in 2028 and says the agreement supports financing discussions. The volume is therefore a forward purchase commitment, not lithium already delivered.
