Emirates presented concepts under development for accessible travel at the eighth AccessAbilities Expo, which opened in Dubai on 19 October. They included an audio and tactile cabin familiarisation experience for blind and low-vision travellers, an accessible lounge suite for passengers with reduced mobility, and biometric boarding gates.
The airline said the lounge suite is being developed as a First Class prototype, with possible use in other classes later. Existing provisions include accessible biometric gates at Terminal 3 of Dubai International Airport and self-service kiosks adapted for a range of access needs; the new concepts on display were not described as completed services. The airline also reported more than 35,000 trained staff, 80 travel rehearsals and over 400 families reached; 10 wheelchair-accessible chauffeur vehicles were available in Dubai.
