The Democratic Republic of the Congo launched asphalting works covering 25 kilometres of urban roads in Beni, North Kivu, on October 2, the Congolese Press Agency reported. North Kivu’s military governor said the central government was financing the project, which is intended to improve movement through the city.

The provincial roads and drainage office described preparation and reshaping of the road platform, construction of drainage structures and a 20-centimetre foundation layer using selected materials. These are planned construction stages, not a report that the roads have been completed. The release did not publish a project budget or completion date.
