Democratic Republic of the Congo President Félix Tshisekedi chaired a strategic council meeting for the agency responsible for developing the Grand Inga project in Kinshasa on 8 October. The presidency’s statement, published on 9 October, said the meeting considered project-structuring options and environmental and social implications.

The statement said planning should account for the living conditions of affected communities. The head of the project agency, ADPI, also announced recruitment of a project director under World Bank financing. The cited 40,000 MW capacity and potential for eight million jobs are long-term project ambitions, not operating output or jobs already created.
