China’s consumer prices rose 0.8% year on year in August

China’s consumer price index rose 0.8% in August from a year earlier. The month-on-month increase was 0.4%.

Food prices fell 1.4% year on year, while non-food prices rose 1.2%. Service prices also increased 0.8% year on year.

The bureau said the CPI has been compiled and published with 2025 as its base period since January 2026, a change relevant to comparisons across the series.
