Statistics Canada published its new sector-based producer price indexes for the first time on October 9. The quarterly series tracks four broad groups—energy, non-energy, goods and services—at the Canada level and is not seasonally adjusted.

The agency says the indexes are intended to support analysis of firms’ price-setting and inflation dynamics. Each release revises the previous two quarters; when weights are updated, the affected series are revised back to the start of the weight-reference year.
