Canada announced a C$50 million investment in the Canadian Food Innovation Network (CFIN) on October 15. The support through the Strategic Response Fund and National Food Security Strategy will help food and beverage processors, especially small and medium-sized businesses, adopt automation, AI and digital-manufacturing technologies.

The government expects the new funding to support more than 200 SMEs and expand the network to 20,000 members. These are prospective funding outcomes, not counts of current members or completed technology transitions. The announcement describes support intended to strengthen food-processing capacity and commercialization of Canadian-developed innovations.
