Brazil’s retail government-bond sales hit a record 15 billion reais in August

Tesouro Direto recorded 1.32 million transactions, while maturities and early redemptions exceeded sales.

Brazil’s Treasury reported 15 billion reais in Tesouro Direto retail bond sales through 1,320,001 transactions in August 2026, the highest monthly total in the series. Selic-linked bonds accounted for 7 billion reais of sales and inflation-linked bonds for 5.5 billion.

Maturities and early redemptions totalled 17.22 billion reais in the month, leaving net issuance at minus 2.21 billion. The programme’s outstanding stock closed at 272 billion reais, down 0.1% from July and up 43% from August 2025.
