Brazil records more than 181,000 applications for Simples Nacional

The tax authority counted 181,172 requests by 18 September to join the simplified tax regime for small businesses.

Brazil’s Federal Revenue Service reported on 22 September that, by 18 September, it had received 181,172 requests to opt into Simples Nacional. A further 165,034 requests sought the regular regime for the new IBS and CBS consumption taxes.

Of the Simples applications, 61,623 were approved and 119,549 were still within the legal 30-day period to resolve disqualifying issues. The authority urged businesses to check their applications and meet the deadlines for clearing outstanding requirements.
