The Monitora Ferrugem RS programme, coordinated by Rio Grande do Sul’s agriculture department Seapi and Emater/RS-Ascar, is using new spore collectors for the 2026/27 soybean season. The state has 100 collectors, 11 of them across 11 municipalities in the Santa Rosa administrative region. The network tracks spores of Phakopsora pachyrhizi, the fungus that causes Asian soybean rust.
The first slides were installed on October 5 and are due to be replaced every Monday for analysis by partner laboratories, with sampling scheduled through March 8, 2027. The programme will also use artificial intelligence to assist spore identification and plans to send results to producers by mobile phone. More than 784,500 hectares of soybeans are expected in the Santa Rosa region; this is a regional area outlook, not a statewide production forecast.

Methodology
Collector counts reported by Seapi and Emater/RS-Ascar are the administrative network status reported on October 14 for the 2026/27 monitoring season; they are not disease prevalence or a disease forecast. The Santa Rosa area is the source’s regional planting-area forecast for the 2026/27 season. Slides from collectors are sent for weekly laboratory analysis.
