EPE projects higher 2027 diesel costs for Brazil’s isolated power systems

Brazil’s Energy Research Company (EPE) released its 2027 liquid-fuel price outlook for isolated electricity systems on 15 October. It projects an average diesel realization price of R$3.78 per litre, above R$3.42 in 2025 and the R$3.62 average expected for 2026.

EPE says an oil surplus could lower prices from current levels, while anticipated El Niño conditions could restrict navigation in Brazil’s North. Increased storage and renegotiated supply contracts are identified as preparations that could reduce the effects of a prolonged dry spell. These are the agency’s forward-looking assumptions, not realised prices or weather outcomes.
