Brazil’s National Center for Monitoring and Early Warning of Natural Disasters (CEMADEN) rated the chance of continued hydrological events as high in the intermediate region of Uruguaiana, Rio Grande do Sul, in an assessment published on the morning of October 17, 2026. It said a flood wave in the Uruguay River basin could sustain or trigger further inundation along the main river and its tributaries.
The outlook also rated hydrological risk as moderate in specified regions of São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo because of forecast rain during the day, which could produce runoff, flooding and small-basin inundation. It assessed landslide risk as moderate in some of those states, citing rainfall over the preceding 24 hours, local susceptibility and forecast showers. These are risk assessments, not reports of events or measured losses.
