EU water assessments add eight countries to river and flood plan reviews

On 5 October, the European Commission published assessments of river-basin and flood-risk plans for eight EU countries that had not submitted data in time for the earlier review. Third river basin management plans and second flood risk management plans are now included for Bulgaria, Cyprus, Greece, Ireland, Malta, Portugal, Slovakia and Slovenia.

On 5 October, the European Commission published assessments of river-basin and flood-risk plans for eight EU countries that had not submitted data in time for the earlier review. Third river basin management plans and second flood risk management plans are now included for Bulgaria, Cyprus, Greece, Ireland, Malta, Portugal, Slovakia and Slovenia.

The Commission said nutrient and chemical pollution, along with disruption of natural river flows, remain major pressures on water bodies. It also updated assessments of marine programmes of measures for Bulgaria, Croatia, Denmark, Greece and Malta.
