Agência Brasil reported on October 10 that more than R$1 billion in betting-account balances had been returned to users following the online betting ban. Data sent by the companies to the federal government put the remaining amount to be transferred to users at R$159 million, down from R$1.2 billion; banks have until October 14 to make the refunds.

The remaining balances belonged to users who had not withdrawn funds before the voluntary withdrawal period ended on October 5. The company data covered 22.5 million bettors across 70.5 million accounts. Eight companies had not yet sent banks the information needed for refunds; the report said Brazil’s federal government legal office, Advocacia-Geral da União (AGU), would go to court to compel them to provide it.
