Brazil’s National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP) approved a 24-month restriction on biodiesel sales between liquid-fuel distributors. It will take effect on the first day of the month after publication in the Official Gazette; the agency’s board is to consider a definitive rule by the end of the period.

ANP said the previous 14-month restriction reduced untraceable biodiesel movements and simplified checks on fuel used in diesel B. From March 2024 to April 2025, more than 579,000 cubic metres of biodiesel had no direct match to supplier purchases. The agency reported no significant supply difficulties during the restriction and said sample non-compliance fell from above 9.5% in 2024 to about 4.9% in August 2025. That comparison alone does not establish the restriction’s causal effect.
