The Australian Bureau of Meteorology’s space weather centre issued geomagnetic disturbance warning 26/62 at 07:27 UTC on 11 October. It forecast planetary G1–G2 conditions for 11 October, G1 for 12 October and G1 for 13 October, with a chance of G2 on 13 October. The warning linked October 11 conditions to continuing effects of a coronal mass ejection that arrived on October 10, and October 13 conditions to high-speed solar wind from coronal holes.

The Bureau explains that strong geomagnetic storms can induce currents in long conductors such as electricity grids and pipelines. The warning did not report a grid failure: its G1–G2 levels are forecasts, and it did not state that a specific Australian asset had been affected.

NOAA forecasts minor geomagnetic storm conditions for 31 October–1 November

NOAA’s Space Weather Prediction Center forecast minor, G1-level geomagnetic storm conditions for 31 October and 1 November in its three-day bulletin issued at 00:30 UTC on 31 October. The forecast attributes the expected disturbance to a high-speed solar-wind stream from a coronal hole.
