NOAA forecasts minor geomagnetic storm conditions for 31 October–1 November
NOAA’s Space Weather Prediction Center forecast minor, G1-level geomagnetic storm conditions for 31 October and 1 November in its three-day bulletin issued at 00:30 UTC on 31 October. The forecast attributes the expected disturbance to a high-speed solar-wind stream from a coronal hole.
Event / data period:
Published: · Updated:
The bulletin’s highest expected three-hour planetary Kp index is 5.00 during the forecast period through 2 November. It expects unsettled conditions on 2 November as the stream’s influence weakens. The largest observed three-hour Kp value during the preceding 24 hours was 4, below NOAA’s geomagnetic-storm scale threshold.
The same bulletin expects no minor-or-greater solar radiation storms or radio blackouts during the period. These are separate space-weather categories from geomagnetic activity. G1 conditions are a forecast, not a report that a new storm has already been observed, and the bulletin does not guarantee aurora visibility at any particular location.
