The Australian and Queensland governments reported on 20 October that construction had begun on two Bruce Highway sections at Gairloch, between Ingham and Cardwell. The works include widening and drainage improvements intended to reduce flood closures.

In the separate A$9 billion Targeted Safety Program, 18 projects have been completed and 20 are underway. Those are programme-wide counts, not a claim that the two Gairloch sections are finished.
