The Department for Transport’s 19 October announcement highlighted a standard form introduced in March. Passengers can use it to share wheelchair battery and handling information before travel. Staff training designed with disabled passengers also aims to reduce the need for people to repeatedly explain their requirements.

UK airlines, airports and mobility-aid manufacturers formed an industry partnership on safe carriage of wheelchairs and other aids. A digital platform for passengers to share needs in advance is set to be trialled, not yet described as operational. The government also referred to possible protections in the Civil Aviation Bill, which is progressing through Parliament.
