On 3 September 2026, AECOM announced its selection by the Santa Clara Valley Water District (Valley Water) to provide professional design services for the Pure Water Silicon Valley Demonstration Facility Project in California. AECOM said the project will help advance direct potable reuse as a potential future source of locally controlled, drought-resilient drinking water for Silicon Valley.
Under the contract, AECOM will lead the design of a new direct potable reuse pilot facility and a LEED-certified, solar-ready learning center at the existing Silicon Valley Advanced Water Purification Center site. The pilot facility will be able to produce up to 200 gallons per minute and will evaluate advanced treatment technologies, while the learning center of approximately 10,000 square feet will support public education, community engagement and workforce development.
AECOM’s scope includes project management and coordination, pilot facility design and engineering, architecture and building engineering for the learning center, regulatory and permitting support, public outreach assistance, and quality assurance and control. It will work alongside Kennedy Jenks and other subconsultants. The announcement covers design services only and does not state a contract value or name a construction contractor.
Data
Pilot facility and learning center figures
Pilot facility capacity and learning center area stated in AECOM’s announcement.
- Pilot facility production capacity (up to)
- ≤200 gallons per minute
- 2026-09-03 · Target
- Learning center floor area (approximate)
- ≈10,000 square feet
- 2026-09-03 · Target
Methodology
Both figures describe facilities to be designed, not built capacity. The pilot capacity is an upper limit (“up to”) and the learning center area is approximate. The announcement does not disclose a contract value.
