Wisconsin’s Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection announced applications on October 12 for the 2027 Nitrogen Optimization Pilot Program research grants. The program supports producers studying ways to optimize commercial nitrogen use through field studies lasting at least two years.

The round makes $1 million available, with a maximum award of $40,000 per participating producer. Research-design intent and preapproval are due December 18, 2026, and final applications are due January 15, 2027. Applicants must collaborate with the Universities of Wisconsin; the announcement offers funding but does not report grants already awarded.
