Source not verified: An analysis by the Umbria Chamber of Commerce, as reported by ANSA on 10 October 2026, put bank lending to small businesses in the region at EUR 2.244 billion in December 2021 and EUR 1.593 billion in March 2026. That is a EUR 651 million nominal decline in the balances compared.

The analysis also calculated an inflation-adjusted real decline of about EUR 1.011 billion, or 38.8%; this estimate is not the same measure as the nominal loan balance. The Chamber’s original release and workbook were not available for this review. Its per-business comparison also needs caution because business-register and bank-loan classifications do not fully align and the denominator includes firms without bank debt.
