The English government announced more than £1.5 billion for over 950 projects to make hospital buildings safer and more resilient.

The package includes £1.3 billion for maintenance, safety and resilience and more than £200 million for ten major projects such as operating theatres, children’s wards and maternity facilities.

The government said £32 million within the maintenance allocation will improve cooling and ventilation and help hospitals cope with extreme heat. Initial schemes are approved for detailed design; final scope and costs remain subject to business cases.
