England’s reformed National Cancer Board held its first meeting on 21 September and began monitoring more than 100 commitments in the National Cancer Plan.

The board will scrutinize diagnosis, treatment and care and advise ministers on areas falling behind. It includes specialist leads for rare cancers, childhood and young people’s cancers, and inequalities.

It will meet quarterly, publish an annual assessment and conduct a fuller review after three years. The government also reported around 250,000 more timely diagnoses or cancer rule-outs over the previous year than the year before the election.
