UK seeks views on Clean Heat Market Mechanism targets through 2030
The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero has opened consultation on Clean Heat Market Mechanism targets and rules for the 2027/28 to 2030/31 scheme years.
Event / data period: 2026-10-12
Published: · Updated:

Published on 12 October, the proposal would continue the mechanism until at least 31 March 2032 and set boiler-sales targets of 9%, 12%, 15% and 18% for 2027/28 through 2030/31. The department expresses those levels as up to 118,000, 157,000, 197,000 and 236,000 heat pumps respectively; those equivalents depend on eligible boiler sales and the use of scheme flexibilities.
The consultation also considers crediting eligible heat pumps in new buildings, retaining carry-forward of up to 35% of a target, and possible credits for supply-chain investment. These are proposals open for comment until 8 November 2026, not adopted rules.
