Türkiye’s energy minister outlined an ambition on August 7, 2026 to turn Ceyhan into a centre for storing, trading and pricing crude oil and petroleum products. The proposal draws on the region’s existing pipelines and port infrastructure.

The statement referred to 1.5 million barrels per day of capacity on the Iraq–Türkiye pipeline and potential for expansion. Capacity is not actual daily throughput. The trading hub was presented as an objective, rather than a newly completed facility.
