Türkiye highlights growing electricity demand from household air conditioning

Türkiye’s energy ministry published a study on household air conditioning and electricity demand on August 10, 2026. It estimated around 11 million units in 2025, with annual heating and cooling consumption of 5,000–6,000 GWh.

The study projected consumption could exceed 12,000 GWh by 2035, rather than reporting an achieved level. The ministry recommended summer indoor settings no lower than 24 °C and warned that unnecessarily low settings can increase energy consumption.
