TRISO-X, a subsidiary of X-energy, announced on 24 September 2026 that vertical construction is complete at TX-1, its advanced nuclear fuel fabrication facility in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. The milestone completes the primary building structure of the 214,000-square-foot facility. The project advances to interior buildout, installation of fuel fabrication equipment and continued construction of supporting facilities.
Clark Construction Group continues as construction contractor. It is leading interior buildout of the facility’s process equipment and administration building, installation of the fuel fabrication equipment and construction of an adjacent graphite matrix powder building. Once operational, TX-1 is expected to produce approximately 700,000 TRISO-X fuel pebbles a year, equivalent to 5 metric tons of uranium, with capacity to provide fuel for up to 11 Xe-100 reactors.
TRISO-X said the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission granted the facility a 40-year Special Nuclear Material License earlier in 2026. TX-1 is being developed initially to support X-energy’s proposed Xe-100 deployment at Dow Inc.’s UCC Seadrift Operations manufacturing site in Texas. The release gave no contract value or operating date.
