Sudan fuel prices fell in August while the food basket became costlier
WFP’s September report recorded monthly commercial-market declines of 22% for petrol and 13% for diesel, while the food basket rose 13%.

National average fuel prices in Sudan fell in August compared with July, according to WFP’s Sudan Market Monitor published on September 21, 2026. Petrol fell 22% and diesel 13% in commercial markets; the corresponding parallel-market declines were 14% and 18%.
Meanwhile, the national average cost of WFP’s Local Food Basket rose 13% month on month and 94% year on year. Despite the monthly fuel declines, commercial-market petrol and diesel were respectively 68% and 133% above year-earlier levels. WFP collects prices monthly in state capitals; this September publication describes August data.
