Sri Lanka’s Department of Census and Statistics reported an Industrial Production Index of 99.7 for August 2026, up from 98.4 a year earlier. The index uses 2015 as its base year, so the level is an index reading rather than a measure of the economy’s currency value.

Within manufacturing, electrical-equipment production rose 16% year over year, while basic pharmaceutical manufacturing fell 26.6%. These sector movements differ sharply and should not be read as the same change in total industrial output. The monthly index covers manufacturing activity and is compiled from production-volume measures.
