Core inflation, which excludes unprocessed food and energy products, was estimated at 3.1% over twelve months. The harmonised index used for international comparisons also showed annual inflation of 4.9%, with a monthly increase of 0.5%. The national and harmonised indexes are separate measures, even when their annual rates coincide.

INE identified downward influences from vehicle fuels and slower price increases in food, non-alcoholic drinks and clothing relative to the corresponding movements a year earlier. Package holidays, gas and liquid fuels exerted upward influences. These descriptions concern contributions to the annual comparison; an unchanged inflation rate does not mean consumer prices themselves were unchanged.
