Senegal’s Ministry of Fisheries and Maritime Economy said a ceremony to immerse octopus pots took place in Mbour on 13 October. Under the World Bank-financed SENRM Pêche project, the ministry plans to provide 21,000 pots to fishing communities during 2026.

The ministry put the equipment’s total value at nearly CFA francs 39.7 million. It said the initiative is intended to support octopus reproduction, help renew stocks and encourage sustainable use of fisheries resources. The release states a planned total; it does not say that all the pots have already been distributed.
