The Scottish Government announced on 17 October that its £2 Bus Fare Cap will extend to North East Scotland from April 2027. Under the expansion, eligible single journeys on participating bus services in Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire will cost no more than £2.
The move is the latest step toward the government’s stated ambition of a nationwide cap. The announcement says the scheme has already been introduced in the Highlands and Islands and extended across Strathclyde. Transport Scotland will work with bus operators, local authorities and regional partners on preparations; details of participating operators and eligible services are due before launch. The notice sets out a future fare policy and area, while passenger use and savings have not yet been measured.
