São Simão completes its third hydropower unit modernization

SPIC Brasil and GE Vernova continue the six-unit programme.

SPIC Brasil and GE Vernova announced on September 14 that modernization of Brazil’s São Simão UG3 hydropower unit was completed, bringing the number of refurbished units to three out of six.

The full programme targets completion in 2029, with UG1 next. The plant’s 1,710 MW figure represents existing total installed capacity; it is not new capacity added through this announcement.
